At the beginning of the series Sansa is aged 13 years and has a direwolf called Lady. She is delighted when Robert Baratheon and the royal party visit Winterfell and even more happy when she learns that she is going to marry Joffrey Baratheon and will one day be Queen of Westeros.
She leaves Winterfell with her father and sister to go to King’s Landing where her father takes up position as Hand of the King. Her mother and brothers remain at Winterfell. Bran is recovering after being pushed from a Tower window by Jaime Lannister. He recovers but is left paralysed.
Sansa initially enjoys being in King’s Landing but after her father is executed she realises how cruel Joffrey Baratheon actually is. After Joffrey decides to marry Margaery Tyrell, Sansa is forced to marry Tyrion Lannister. She is befriended by Petyr Baelish and after Joffrey is poisoned at his wedding Baelish effects Sansa’s escape.
Petyr Baelish took Sansa to her aunt Lysa who he had recently married. He then murdered Lysa and took control of Robin Arryn and the Vale. Baelish arranged a marriage for Sansa to Ramsay Bolton. He persuaded her to marry him telling her she would be Lady of Winterfell. After her marriage Sansa discovers how violent Ramsay is and she is raped and beaten. She finds an ally in Theon Greyjoy who is Ramsay’s prisoner.
Sansa and Theon escaped by jumping from the walls of Winterfell and made their way to the Wall where Sansa was reunited with Jon Snow. She persuades Jon to help her take Winterfell from Ramsay Bolton. She is not happy when Jon wants to attack immediately and sent a letter to Petyr Baelish asking him to bring the army of the Vale to their assistance.
At the beginning of the Battle of the Bastards, Ramsay releases Sansa’s brother, Rickon who he has captured but shoots him dead with a crossbow before he can reach safety. Ramsay quickly gains the upper hand in the battle but the arrival of Baelish and the army of the Vale saves the day. Ramsay is captured and put in a cell. Sansa killed him by setting his own dogs on him.
Sansa appeared shocked when Jon Snow was pronounced Lord of Winterfell. She disagreed with many of Jon Snow’s decisions especially when he decided to go south to meet Daenerys Targaryen. While acting as Lady of Winterfell Arya and Bran returned to Winterfell. Arya and Sansa appeared wary of each other but worked together to outwit Petyr Baelish. Baelish was accused of treason and killed by Arya who slit his throat.
